What is Zone Training?
Zone Training, part of Pro, sorts each GPS run into six pace zones, scores it from 0.0 to 5.0, and shows how your week splits between easy and hard.
Zone Training is a Pro feature that reads each GPS run by pace. Kinoku sorts every stretch of the run into one of six pace zones: Recovery, Easy, Tempo, Threshold, Interval and Race. From the time you spent in each zone and how long you ran, it gives the run a Training Effect score from 0.0 to 5.0, where harder and longer runs score higher.
On the Run Analytics dashboard, the Zones tab adds up your week. The tab shows how much of your running time was easy, meaning Recovery and Easy, and how much was hard, meaning Tempo and above. Many runners aim for about 80% easy and 20% hard, and Kinoku calls a week balanced when 70% to 90% of the time is easy.
You have nothing to set up. Your zones come from your own recent pace, with the middle pace of your recent runs as your easy pace, so the first readings need at least three runs. The zones read pace rather than heart rate, which means a slow hilly run can sort into easier zones than it felt.
